The Venice Film Festival has its unofficial opening tonight.
Roma ore 11 (1952), directed by Giuseppe De Santis, will be shown in the Campo San Paulo. An excerpt is above.
New films start showing tomorrow and run through September 8. "To the Wonder" by Terrance Malick will have its world premiere September 2. A story of cross-cultural love and struggle, it was filmed in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Mont Saint-Michel, France (the eponymous Wonder).
Tomorrow on the Lido is predicted to be in the mid-80's and partly sunny, down into the sixties at night. Sadly, the Hotel des Bains (where I stayed on my first trip to Venice) has been converted to apartments, but there are still three rooms left at the Danieli.
