In the Sunday, January 26 New York Times there was a wide-ranging essay on several current and forthcoming exhibitions of photography and related art forms: The Next Big Picture by Philip Gefter.

Is a photograph constructed -- as so beautifully done by Travess Smalley -- or captured, as has been the traditional technique?

For me there is a need to find and capture, rather than construct.  Certainly there is an aspect of composition to my capturing.  But while beauty is a goal, my purpose is to notice what is beautiful in unlikely contexts.
