Last May I was in Florence and began conceiving and composing my realist abstractions. Over the next ten months I was constantly and happily finding and framing more and more.
Since March I have been preoccupied with other work and have simply not seen much that had meaning for me. I am determined to be more intentional in my looking over the next several weeks.
Adam Kirsch recently wrote of photography, "Nowhere is there so acute a tension between what is and what is seen; and in no other art is the shaping, calculating intelligence of the artist so elusive." I need to reclaim that tension.
